No substance, no material, no technology is able to touch so universally our sensorial as well as our mental existence as textiles – especially in a time that threatens to become ever more nonsensical due to increasing virtualisation. Textiles, with their wealth of weaves and textures developed over thousands of years around the world, are the ideal medium to satisfy this need for sensoriality.
With a wide-ranging exhibition, the Museum für Gestaltung Basel dedicates itself to the theme of life from the perspective of art: multimedia, interdisciplinary and encompassing of different cultures.
The exhibition traces the "thread from the picture into the room" by means of historical installations, as well as some created for the occasion.
